LEARNING TO MULTIPLY

TOPIC: LEARNING TO MULTIPLYTEXT: ACT 20:33 – 34, ACT 18:3
Every sister should know that skill acquisition should be an integral part of your education. So as a sister you are to educate yourself on the importance of acquiring a skill. You should encourage yourself to learn a craft of your choice, in addition to your educational pursuit. This will go a long way to help you become independent and better positioned in the society.
For better understanding of the message, we shall consider the following sub – heading (i) necessity of learning a craft (ii) empowerment through learning a craft.
NECESSITY OF LEARNING A CRAFT.
Empowering youth through skill acquisition is not a new thing. It was a common practice among the Jews. In fact, every Jewish song was compulsorily made to learn the trade of his father before acquiring any formal education. Paul the apostle, for instance, learnt the craft of tent making as a boy before proceeding to study law under Gamaliel. And that knowledge made him independent of any ones charity later in life Acts 20:33-34.
Aside from Paul, our Lord Jesus Christ also had some knowledge of carpentry at a tender age, alongside His vast knowledge of the scripture Mark 6:1-3. Despite His brilliant, He was still made to learn the craft under the care of His earthly father.
With the present global economic reality and high rate of unemployment everywhere, it is imperative as a sister to learnt craft as a viable alternative to white collar job. No government can comfortably provide jobs-let alone suitable jobs for all citizens, hence, the need to make yourself succeed others fail. Making yourself acquire a skill such as fashion designing, baking, bag making, shoe making and other confectionaries and also event decorating will make you financial independent as well as guarantees you job security.
EMPOWERMENT THROUGH LEARNING A CRAFT
It is your duty to provide yourself with many variable options to choose from in life. As you go to school in town to acquire formal education, also learn handicraft and manual skills. How do you do that? Start by personally earning skills and knowledge your parents have acquired.
Secondly, go to places where you can acquire those skills. You can be an apprentice or enroll in a vocational school, where you can formally learn the craft. For instance, you can go to a dressmaker to be an apprentice there.
Thirdly, monitor your progress as an apprentice just as you monitor your academic progress. Do not degrade crafting or skill acquisition nor allow yourself to be treated with disdain because you fell it will make people treat you as a second class citizen. You just have to understand that learning a craft is not a substitute for acquiring a formal education but take the two seriously and know that neither of them is inferior nor superior to the order; they are both meant to prepare you for success in life. After all, “knowledge they say is power” and “no knowledge is wasted.” Besides, craft multiples your potential and it is an alternative to a white collar job in the dwindle world economy.
However, ensure you strike a balance between your academics and learning a trade. None should suffer because they both guarantee a good future. To avoid a clash between the trainings, learn the craft before going for further studies after secondary school or while waiting for employment from university.
Finally, pray for you to make success of your skill acquisition. Prayer always makes things happen; it’s the key to unlock every door, so use it. GOD BLESS YOU
